Message from our Principal
Welcome to term 2 and our new newsletter format. Using the Schoolzine platform enables families to easily access the newsletter on mobile devices and through the click of a button the newsletter contents can be translated into a large array of languages. Sometimes the link to the newsletter may get stuck in your junk folder so you may need to set up your inbox to receive the email. We hope you enjoy the new format.
This term we welcome two new executive teachers to the team. This week we welcomed Deb Walkenhorst to the Senior Campus and in week 3 we will welcome Greg Pratt to the Junior Campus. Please join us in making them to feel welcome and a part of the CCS community. We started the term with a pupil free day. Educators took the time to collaborate and plan for the upcoming term. School leaders facilitated Enrolment Information Sessions for families interested in enrolling at Caroline Chisholm School in 2025. If you know of any families interested in enrolling their child/ren at CCS in 2025 please encourage them to contact the front office and we can arrange a tour.
Enrolments
Enrolments for the 2025 school year are now open for students starting at a new school. Visit education.act.gov.au for the online application link and information about the school in your child’s Priority Enrolment Area. Apply by 7 June to receive an offer from 29 July 2024.
- Students currently enrolled at CCS preschool and in our PEA, who want to stay on at CCS for kindergarten do NOT need to complete an online enrolment form.
- Students currently enrolled in year 6 at CCS and in our PEA, who want to stay on at CCS for year 7 do NOT need to complete an online enrolment form.
- All year 10 students are required to complete an online enrolment form to enrol in an ACT College (year 11 and 12).
Please ensure you notify the front office if your child or young person will not be attending CCS in 2025.
Be the best version of yourself
This was the message shared with students on the Senior Campus upon their return to school this week. We are asking each student to think about their actions and choices in order to present the best version of themselves at school each and every day. All students have experienced term 1 at school, now it is time to stretch themselves to do better and be better each day. This might be in relation to solving complex fractions, using the Bunsen burner in science, writing an essay, handing work in on time or the way they speak to and interact with others. We can each grow, improve and further develop our skills and attitudes in positive ways.
2024 School Board
My sincere apologies I left off two members of the school board when I wrote for the week 11 newsletter.
I am pleased to announce the 2024 School Board members -

- Parent Member – Wolfgang Hertel
- Staff Member – Jayne McDonald
- Staff member – Insia Mustansir

Year 7/8 Camp
Many of our year 7 and 8 students and staff were up bright and early on Wednesday morning to get on the bus to go to camp this week. The students are visiting Camp Kianinny at Tathra. Huge thanks to Ms Miley-Read, Ms Turner, Ms van Kemenade, Mr Pratley, Ms Catchpole and Ms Rice for supporting students at camp. Stay tuned for photos and reflections from camp in the next newsletter.
Parent Teacher Interviews
In week 2, we have parent teacher interviews scheduled P-10. We encourage all families to make a time to talk with your child/young person’s class teachers. Student learning and wellbeing outcomes are always better when school and home are aligned and working together. Please contact the front office if you require more information about the upcoming interviews.
Warm Regards
Julie

CCS Book Fair
Hello Families,
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming back to CCS!!
Week 4 May 20th – May 24th
Book Fairs provide a wonderful opportunity for schools to raise vital funds for libraries while also increasing the home libraries of our students, love of books, and literacy skills of everyone in our community through shared reading. There will be activities for students to enjoy throughout the week and lead up to the week to build excitement for the fair as well as opportunities for our community to join in on the excitement of the event.
Students have each received an invitation to the Book Fair and a colouring in page to enter a colouring in competition, with 4 winners being chosen to win a $15 Book Fair voucher to spend at the Book Fair.
Families will be welcome to browse and purchase from 8.30 – 9.30am daily (8:30 - 9.00am Tuesday) and from 2.30 – 3.30pm.
Thursday the 23rd, we will also celebrate Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. We invite all families to join our morning tea for a gold coin donation to the Cancer Council and stay to browse the selection of books to purchase or just mingle with our community!
If anyone from our community would like to volunteer an hour or 2 at the Book Fair, please get in contact with me (details below) I would really appreciate the help!
We can’t wait to see you there,
Amanda Caddick
CCS Senior Campus Musical

We are looking for any donations of the following items to go towards the set. If you have anything on this list that you don’t need/won’t miss, please drop it off at either the Junior Campus or Senior Campus front office.
We are looking for items from the 80's such as -
- Rubik’s cubes
- Cassette tapes
- Records
- CDs
- Any 80's themed memorabilia
- Bright/neon fabric
- 80's themed posters
Please note that these items will most likely be painted over/glued to other stuff, so absolutely make sure you don’t want it back before donating it! 🙂

Understanding and Responding to Feelings and Behaviours (UR FaB) Program in Schools
Emotion Coaching Webinar
Does your child have big feelings and behaviours?
Would you like some strategies on how to support your child?
UR FaB is an early intervention program operating in ACT primary schools as part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). We are running a webinar session for parents and caregivers of primary-school aged children. Emotion coaching has been shown to build emotional intelligence in children. This is linked with greater resilience and better long-term outcomes.
This session can help you to understand:
•your child’s emotions and needs
•the importance of emotional intelligence and how you can support it
•how to use emotion coaching to respond to your child
•how to encourage cooperation and positive behaviours
•where you can find further supports.
When: Thursday, 23 May 2024 from 12.00pm to 1.00pm.
How to join: This session will be delivered on Microsoft Teams.
To register to attend please contact the Tuggeranong Child and Family Centre on 62078228.
Parent & Carer online safety
The Online Safety Education team are committed to supporting school communities to develop their online safety skills and knowledge. The team aim to increase the number of safe and positive online experiences students have and reduce the number of online safety incidents that impact on learning environments.
There are multiple webinars running each term with both afternoon and evening times available that will help your family be more confident and safer online by:
- understanding online safety and risks young people face
- learning strategies to prevent and respond to online issues
- supporting your child to be safe online
- knowing where to go for further support.
Jump rope for heart
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce that Caroline Chisholm School – Junior Campus are participating in Jump Rope for Heart this term – a fantastic fundraising and physical activity program by the Heart Foundation.
Over the coming weeks your child will learn new skills, increase their physical activity, and learn about heart health. And the program will end with our school wide ‘Jump Off Day’ at the end of Term 2 (date to be confirmed) where your child gets to show off their new skipping skills to their friends.
When you register your child online, you’ll get access to additional skipping resources to help give your child a great reason to get away from the screens and get outdoors. Register and create your own secure webpage at www.jumprope.org.au/parents.
By signing up online, you and your child/ren can:
- Easily raise funds online.
- Track skipping skills progress and earn virtual badges along the way.
- Post updates to your page so family and friends can follow their progress.
- Access additional skipping resources.
Your child should have a ‘Parent and Guardian Guide’ flyer to take home, which includes further information on the program. If you didn’t receive this, visit www.jumprope.org.au/parents for all the information that you need.
Thank you for getting involved in Jump Rope for Heart!
Yours sincerely,
Hannah Skinner
